De Magliano x Dsquared2 Graphic Hoodie komt uit de FW25-capsule waarin het label van Luca Magliano en Dsquared2 hun twee handschriften over één kledingstuk leggen. De hoodie is uitgevoerd in zwaar katoenen sweatstof met een zachte geborstelde binnenkant, wat hem het gewicht en de hand van een volwaardige sweater geeft. Op de borst zit een grote zwart-wit grafische print met open lippen en handgetekende teksten, het beeld dat de artistieke kern van de samenwerking draagt. De capuchon is afgewerkt met een trekkoord, en geribbelde manchetten en zoom houden de vorm strak rond pols en heup. De print is bewust groot en rauw gehouden, eerder een tekening dan een logo, wat deze hoodie onderscheidt van de doorsnee merksweater met borstprint. Aan de basis ligt een klassiek hoodie-silhouet, maar de licht oversized snit en het tekenwerk trekken het stuk naar het experiment van Magliano. Het katoen is dik genoeg om alleen te dragen en houdt zijn vorm na wassen. Een statement-stuk dat zijn waarde haalt uit de samenwerking en niet uit een opgeplakt logo.

De pasvorm is een licht oversized, relaxed fit met een rechte, ruime romp en laag vallende schouders. De hoodie valt een fractie ruim, dus wie een schoner, minder volumineus silhouet wil kan een maat kleiner nemen zonder dat het strak gaat zitten. Blijf je op je eigen maat, dan krijg je de bedoelde gelaagde streetwear-look met ruimte voor een shirt of midlayer eronder. Het katoen heeft weinig rek en dankt zijn comfort aan het ruime patroon in plaats van aan stretch. Na wassen op lage temperatuur houdt de stof zijn vorm en krimpt nauwelijks.

Draag de Magliano x Dsquared2 hoodie onder een effen wollen overshirt met een rechte zwarte jeans en witte sneakers, zodat de lippenprint het enige drukke element in de look blijft. De print is groot genoeg om de toon te zetten, dus houd alles eromheen rustig en monochroom. Dat ene grafische statement is precies waarom deze hoodie nu de moeite waard is.

Dsquared2 werd in 1995 opgericht door de Canadese tweeling Dean en Dan Caten en wordt sindsdien in Italië geproduceerd. Luca Magliano runt vanuit Italië zijn gelijknamige label, dat bekendstaat om het verbouwen van klassieke kledingstukken tot sculpturale, eigenzinnige stukken. I love this book. Some of the incidents took place in my home town of Jonesboro, LA. I knew many of the men (and women) who risked their lives to take a stand for racial equality. CORE's Jonesboro Freedom House (although it is vacant) still stands today, and its structure has not changed. This house, along with many of the pictures of individuals, are shown between pages 107 & 108 of the book. I shared this information with some of my students. They were quite surprised that our small town was a part of History!

Funny, Interesting, Informative!

I hiked the PCT in 2016 and I wish this had been available then. There are a lot of misconceptions about the desert section of the PCT (first 700ish miles) being flat, monotonous, and unpleasant. Even once you are out on the trail hiking through varied terrain, it is hard to shake off the "desert mentality" that comes from listening to those misconceptions. One of the reasons I love this book is because of how well the author paints an accurate picture of the beauty and constantly changing scenery the desert has to offer. All the information you would expect from a guide book is here, including mileage, water sources, elevation, etc. There are also a TON of photos that will make you question why you spend anytime indoors. I mean this literally. This book is worth buying for pictures of the Sierra sections alone. The damn near turn by turn navigation descriptions of each section are also a good reason for your purchase. The author is funny. I wanted to say that in a funny way but she's funny enough so if you want to chuckle, wait for the book. Her passion for the PCT seeps through her writing and it is impossible not to feel equally enthusiastic. On a multi-day (or multi-month) hike, that enthusiasm is almost as important as your next water source...except not..but ALMOST.

Anyone Can Do It!

My husband and I are hiking the PCT and this book has come in very helpful. We especially appreciate the areas we can park at the beginning and end of each section. It is making the trail very doable for two older people who could never make it otherwise. I tear out the section, make a copy and highlight some of the details for example a gate at 4.5 miles. It helps encourage us to continue when we know about how far we have left to go. Also the little map showing elevation gain and lost. The last 17 mile trip we did last week was predominantly up hill. Knowing that ahead of time prepares us mentally for a difficult hike. Our next section is 10 miles downhill so we will do that as a day hike and bring the dog. For anyone who thinks they can't do the PCT this is the perfect book. If I can do it Anyone Can Do It!

I plan to section hike the PCT in mostly small sections. Previous section books I'd found were called "PCT Section Hiking" but really were if you just wanted to get your feet on the PCT. THIS series of books is more than I could have hoped for and makes it so easy! I had previously spent hours and hours planning small sections, researching where to leave my car, which wilderness, what permits were needed, and on and on.
